The nearby cathedral city of Salisbury offers its own extraordinary monuments – including the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral, which houses one of the four original copies of the Magna Carta, and the ancient hillfort of Old Sarum. London to Salisbury
Depart London by comfortable coach. Stop en route at Avebury – the world's largest prehistoric stone circle (actually older than Stonehenge). Afternoon arrival in the beautiful city of Salisbury. Evening guided walk along the medieval streets. Dinner at a local restaurant.
Stonehenge & Old Sarum
The highlight of the tour – a morning visit to the extraordinary Stonehenge. Explore with an expert guide who will explain the latest archaeological theories about this 5,000-year-old monument. Afternoon at the nearby ancient hillfort of Old Sarum – an Iron Age hill fort and the site of the original Salisbury. Visit the ruins of the original Salisbury Cathedral and Norman castle.
Salisbury Cathedral & Return
Morning at the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral – the tallest cathedral spire in Britain (123 metres). View one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta (1215). Explore the medieval Chapter House and beautiful Cathedral Close. Afternoon return journey to London. Farewell ancient Wiltshire!
